he'll talk to me in five years when he's a lame duck, or in eight years when he's out of office,"

Jeremiah Wright

True dat.

Disagree on the timing. I'll give odds on that the current resident in the White House will be a one termer. IMO, he's a lame duck now, but it's not yet apparent...

ESPADA: WE'RE UNLOCKING THE SENATE DOORS

ALBANY -- They have the keys -- and they aren't afraid to use them.

The leader of an insurgent coalition challenging the state Senate's Democratic majority said today that the group now has the keys to the chamber, which has been locked for two days by Democrats.

Sen. Pedro Espada (D-Bronx), the Democratic head of the new power-sharing alliance, said they were given the keys that Democrats had originally refused to provide.

"We have the keys," he said. "We asked for them and we got them."

The move ends the coalition's threat to hold its inaugural day in control of the session in a nearby park this afternoon.

In an effort to bring Democrats and Republicans together, Gov. Paterson today called on state senators to resolve their power struggle -- and pledged to work with whoever prevails.

"They've got to work this out," he said. "They were elected by the people. They have to work this out."

Paterson also said that he hopes his fellow Democrats win -- and called for returning attention to the big issues facing the state, including the economic recession and the passage of a same-sex marriage bill that he recently sponsored.

Paterson's comments came two days after a parliamentary plot engineered by the GOP -- and two dissident Democrats -- led to the ouster of State Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith and upended control of the 62-member chamber.

As a result of Sens. Espada Jr. and Hiram Monserrate (D-Queens) joining with the Republican minority to form a coalition, the GOP now claims to hold a slim 32-30 majority.

No one knows for sure if the power grab will hold.

Democrats, who assumed the majority after the November elections, locked the Senate chamber on Tuesday and have threatened legal action.
