Yes. He was a creep back then too. He used to record at a place down the street - Golds.

There was a definite line drawn between Spector and the crowd I hung out with who thought the Beach Boys were more responsible for the layering sound (which Spector called the Wall of Sound). Back then there were only 4 tracks, then 8 and it took a lot of engineering to come up with the Beach Boys sound and most of us credited the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean - not Spector.

There was a big commotion one day when the news announced Spector had been killed in a car crash. They thought he was dead but they revived him.
