Schwab 500 - I agree Bart. I have been trying to buy to cover and to establish new positions but can't get through to Schwab - either web site or on the phone. I could get through all day yesterday. It is my feeeling that the magt of Scwhab thinks they are doing the public a favor not to let them get through. They have the capacity to handle the volume. I am going to talk to the management, get reimbursement , and switch brokers.

I can understand that- in a volatile markets orders difficult to execute.

Can't get through to E-Trade or Schwab! While I wait...any ideas about where the elephants will come back to feast? Would like to unload weaker stocks for those have better potential for move up.

Thinking of selling APM, AMTX and WDC. Like AMAT, INTC, and oils. Is OXHP overkill (sold).

Bart ...This seems to be a problem all over, long delay in confirming any transactions even at Prudential which is usually very quick. AOL has long delays even in getting your portfolios up. Hope you are doing better today, keep the chin up and the bottle tilted!! till this is over.<ggg>!! Best wishes Burjis

Bart:

This particular situation does point out some of the weakness in dependence on internet trading.

I executed three buys yesterday afternoon and two this morning with a local broker. As they were all limit orders, execution speed is hard to guage, but one came back this morning in less than two minutes. This has to include three phone calls not counting mine. That is fast.
Me to broker
broker to order desk
order desk to broker
broker to me confirm

Good luck.

Regards----Nemer

Bart: Schwab tooled me around today too big time. I'm major pissed. Take a look at a thread called "From the Trading Desk". It's run by the head trader from a small discount firm in New Jersey. They answered all calls within two rings this morning and executed trades on the spot. They're getting my account when this is all over.

Hi, Bart

I use Scwhab also, both electronic and 500. The only way I got any of the gifts the market presented today were limit orders I placed yesterday.

WIND, CSCO, INTC, TLAB were gifts today and I missed all but CSCO. I managed to trade CSCO by selling Nov 80p (my limit was not set at the optimal price!) Been expecting CSCO to test its 200-day mav at 70ish and for institutions to rebuy before earnings. My sense was that the institutions had locked in their profits on CSCO earlier and the 30-day wash rule had long passed (chart pattern and mf during previous months support this scenario) ... so they were bound to reenter at bargain prices.

While the DOW and NAZ indices may revist their lows, I doubt that quality stocks whose earnings reports and forward guidance are already out will revisit the lows of this morning. Panic lows are seldom revisited unless there is reason ...

Click on my name, I left a similar post for Paul.
