The UN says there were 742,000 Palestinian Arab refugees of the war against Israel's founding. Wouldn't have been any if the Arab countries hadn't declared war on Israel. Actually, Israel would not let them back into the country. You see, kumquat, back in the late 1930s the Zionists were discussing the Arab 'problem' and what to do about the Arabs. They outnumbered the Zionists by quite a lot and presented a problem for a democratic, Jewish state. So then, when the Arabs fled Israel as war broke out, the Zionists saw an opportunity and took advantage of it. Of course, they claimed they had that right because the Arabs did not stay and fight the Arab nations that were attacking the new Israeli state. And maybe the Zionists had that right but they didn't have the right to confiscate all the Arab property without proper compensation which they did. So you see, your argument has little merit when all the facts are laid out bare.

More jews got the boot from arab states post 1947, i think. Anyone find the exact numbers? Re. Teddy. He thinks it awful that arabs were not compensated for land they fled from during independence war? Who told them to flee? Oh, their religious leaders and arab states who promptly sent them to camp for the summer and beyond. So the israelis who are starting a new state and totally broke are supposed to write checks? No other nation involved in war ever did that. But Teddy doesnt care by any land grabs anywhere else in the world, only in palestine and more recently South Ossetia where he took on their heroic cause against democratic Georgia. Note similarity, little dem states fighting for survival get short shrift in teds world.

americansephardifederation.org Looks like the 850,000 jews who got the boot from arab nations trumps the 742,000 who heeded their religious leaders and calls by invading arab states. They didnt get the boot from israel. PM Ben Gurion begged arabs to stay and help fight invading armies in 48. When they left, they left for good. They were told by invading arabs that they would get their land back in days and the land of the soon to be dead jews. Arabs in Pal made a choice. Some stayed. Some left. Those who left ended up as refugees. And the beat goes on.
