Without going into whether the war necessary or not or fought well or not, you make a good point. Iraq is a shiaa state that has advanced further with democracy than iran. Its something that iranians may look at as something possible for a shiaa state like theirs to achieve. The aytotoolas are akin to the chincom leadership of a modernizing state. Once you let the genie out of the bottle a better future is assured however it could take a lot of time in both places to end up with real democracy and an end to chicom and mulla dominance respectively.

"As I pointed out to you 8 years ago, the Iraq War will eventually bring about change in Iran. Perhaps the time is here."

It's ALL Obama, Dave. Iran has seen even the "Great Satan" can fix itself. Bush's invasion of Iraq just made Iran an unchecked regional superpower and made the mullahs case against us true.

I think Iraq may be playing a role but Obama is a strong catalyst as well.
