No joke, I´m chuckling whenever I read about it...usually it is the other way round - the (derivative) tail wags the dog. I am wondering why that hasn´t happened more often as various company debt papers have been used as reference assets in massive deals...it should have been easy to feed a company and wait for the insurance premium to evaporate.

(well I guess, in many cases the problems were too big and the amount of sold insurance, through CDS still relatively small).
