It was our reaction that threatened our way of life. Yes. As we rallied resolutely around the flag, we allowed the principles behind the flag to be discarded. Our leader did not say, "we have nothing to fear but fear itself". Instead, our leader nurtured our fears. The disagreement, the frustratingly slow debate in Washington, is Democracy at work.
