Somebody has to save the heathen barbarians from their sad destinies. Look at them since they took over running their own countries - hopeless.

Observe how well Zimbabwe did when named after Cecil Rhodes; Rhodesia. Notice the desperately sorry state of the place since the local yokels took over.

Noblesse oblige,
Mqurice

PS: Which is not to say the British Empire was a desirable political system, it was just less bad than the alternatives. Maoris were warring, eating each other and living short and brutal lives. No wonder they wanted the British Empire to take over and make them British Subjects too. Now they normally wear pants and hats and look quite human. When the British realized what they had done, making a billion people British, they pulled up the draw bridge, cutting the colonies off, leaving them to their own devices. The local yokel alpha males were keen to get control of the local cash flows so they were pleased to see the British go.
