I played tennis with an airline stewie ( husband's a pilot for United ) today that said the rumor is that the pilot and co-pilot were ASLEEP and the Air France plane went down on auto-pilot.

It is a good idea.

An even more important benefit is that real time telemetry might be available for analysis as events unfold, potentially leading to corrective action during the flight and avoiding the crash in the first place.


Its amazing this hasn't happened sooner. There is some conflicting data on cost. Maybe that's still the issue.
