Just listened to Matt Lauer's interview with Sarah Palin. I was particularly struck by the following exchange, which proves he and his kind just don't get it. Best transcription I can do, and paraphrased some, with fluff left out:

subtitles: 'The Palins have no intention of providing a ratings boost for David Letterman by appearing on his show. Plus it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman.'

Lauer: "... Are you suggesting that David Letterman can't be trusted around a 14 year old girl?

Palin: "Take it however you want to take it. ... ... Willow no doubt would want to stay away from David Letterman after he made such a comment, and you can interpret that any way you want."

Lauer: "Is that perhaps not in bad taste also, Governor? ..."

Palin: "...Maybe Willow has had enough of this type of comment and maybe Willow would want to react to him in a way that would catch him off guard..." Manymoose pipe dream: so Willow could kick the crap out of him before feeding him to her Dad.

Lauer: "Does he owe you an apology?..."

Palin: "Here's the double standard: During the campaign Barack Obama said family is off limits. He's the candidate who must be obeyed and they [left his family alone]... ... They haven't done that to the other side of the ticket."

Lauer: "...Does he owe you an apology?..."

Palin: "He doesn't have to apologize to me. I would like to see him apologize to young women ... ... for contributing to that [idea] that it's OK ... to talk about statutory rape. It's not cool. It's not funny."

Lauer then changes the subject to "Who's the future of the Republican party? [You?] "
