<<How many years now have you been able to watch the markets part time and still do well?>>

I began investing/trading during the summer of 1982. It was the beginning of a secular bull market so I basically just bought and held my positions, which were primarily funds and added to them on dips. As an entrepreneur, father, husband, son, brother and above all, friend of the universe, I had more important things to think about than the market. Call me complacent if you will, but the returns were great and the trend was my friend. I joined SI in June 1997 and began to post on the very Dark Millenium Crash Thread, started by Arik. There was some great analysis on that thread and the bearishness - even by today's standards - was extremely thick. My innocence was fortunately shattered and I was now alerted and attuned to the possibility of a severe secular bear market. When the a/d line began to roll over from Fall 1998-First Quarter 2000, I knew it was just a matter of time before the transition to secular bear became complete.

In a secular bear, one has to think a bit more than during a secular bull. In this environment, I try to buy an extreme low and sell at an extreme high in order to maximize my profits.

I work full time outside Wall Street so I spend most of my time not watching the market closely during market hours. I maintain a healthy distance from the market, which benefits me.
