Remember the supposed former McCain staffer who said Palin didn't know Africa was a continent? Turned out the "staffer" was a hoaxer who claimed to have landed a new job at what he called the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy. Major news outlets ran with the story after he posted it, not bothering to check on the Harding Institute. hardinginstitute.org I remember talking to some people who were convinced of this "fact." I take your point, most of these people do vote.
