The problem isn't the German proficiency of CJ's wife. The problem is her English. Or much more likely, CJ's academic approach when helping her out. (The cheapest Langenscheidt only shows that single translation).
I bet that CJ speaks no other language than English.
Being exposed to and in control of several languages helps a lot when nailing down pregnant translations, in German 'Sprachgefühl'.

My wife wears jewelry and so would yours, that is if you had one.
No modern life US woman wears, well...'adornments'!!

I bet that 9 out of 10 average US citizens don't even know what that word means.

When did you last see 'adornments' promoted in jewelry ads???
That would give people associations to under wear.
