Iran has a lot of problems right now, and there are some culturally significant indicators. One of the reasons that those in their 20s are not so happy with the current regime is that because the economy is doing so poorly, many males cannot afford to move out of their parents house. And that means they can't get married. In a Western country, this wouldn't be so bad, but in a country where sex outside of marriage unless you have some money is almost impossible, it is a much bigger deal. Another point is that there is a tomato shortage because there are so many embargoes. This may seem silly, but tomatoes are an essential part of anything more than basic Iranian cuisine. If anything separates city from country dwellers, it is tomatoes. The current leadership doesn't seem to understand these issues. Which isn't a huger surprise. The revolution would never have survived if they hadn't managed to co-opt the urban dwellers. But, they did and they have. However, that is changing...
