Most liberals don't. They think they're just part of the mainstream. They don't even call themselves "liberal" anymore, but instead refer to themselves as "progressive."

A testament to the demonizing capacity of the right...in any even, I think you just made a case for why moderates are more likely to identify with liberals than with conservatives.
