Assuming that you and Ted traveled to Italy, your wives would have some serious problems explaining the customs what their 'Adornments' were worth. Trying to look it up in the mid size Langenscheidt (65,000 translations only), no such word can be found. My wife, however, who only carries 'Jewelry' easily finds the translation 'Gioielli', which is the common word used for what in an equally common word is referred to as 'Jewelry' in the US and 'Jewelery' with the British. Why Langenscheidt? Because they are good and thus command a large market share and I always by mine at Barnes & Noble in San Diego. I did check their biggest dictionary as well (800k words and phrases) and sure enough, your 'Adornments' made it in there. Even more commonly used for decorations of buildings, but then again, my wife is smaller than that and as a flight attendant at Pan Am was taught to use language everybody understands - like jewelry :) Taro
