Japan-based semiconductor equipment manufacturers posted about 25.97 billion yen (US$789.45 million) in orders in May 2009 (three-month average basis) and a book-to-bill ratio of 0.66, according to data gathered by Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ). A book-to-bill ratio of 0.66 means that 66 yen worth of new orders was received for every 100 yen of product billed for the month.

The three-month average of worldwide bookings in May grew 44.7% from 17.94 billion yen in the prior month, but experienced a decrease of 73.9% from 99.35 billion yen in orders posted in May 2008, the data show.

The three-month average of worldwide billings in May 2009 was about 39.16 billion yen, down 3.2% from the final April 2009 level of 40.44 billion yen and 68.7% from 125.04 billion yen in May 2008.
