What I did before becoming a "clown" was sit on a losing
position for years until it went to zero. Gold bulls
sometimes do seem to be fanatic clowns. Ditto PS, with
SP=99 call.

And the answer to your question, no, not greed. In this game
it is easy to be wrong, so you go for risk management.
