Is it a scientific truth that words have their own power.

Was Jefferson correct when he wrote to Thomas Pain in 1796, "Go on doing with your pen what in other times was done with the sword."

It seems some words delivered under the proper circumstance can inspire enthusiasm and strengthen willpower. While some words can discourage, even debilitate and lead to failure.

Be watchful in our use of words. By words we determine our direction and make commitments, by words we establish hope, promise, and give light to our experience. It is also only by words which we may be cursed.
