It's undoubtedly due to a necessary "cover your butt" mentality in order to avoid litigation... I'm very aware that malpractice insurance is over the top... some physician friends of mine practice with no malpractice insurance, they have their patients (on the very first visit) sign an acknowledgement that they fully understand that he has no insurance... I think this is probably a good idea, it lets the patient realize they can't attempt a frivolous litigation and win much... this is really a problem with the legal system and the ambulance chasing attorneys...

You know, by the way, on all the cruise ships we travel there's the antiseptic soap right at the beginning of the buffet lines and at the Internet cafe, and in various places around the ship where hands are used to use and touch things... it doesn't mean people use it, lots do, but it's a great way to stay safe, especially with so many people all over the place... my wife and I also keep plenty of single hand wipes which we use while cruising... it's just amazing to me that hospitals don't employ the very same good hygiene practices, especially when there's so much disease as part of that environment...
