I can't believe these "conservatives" criticize the DMV. I've been to DMV's in Texas, CA and Utah. They've all been almost carbon copies of each other, and to me, they all seemed MODELS of efficiency. Licencing EVERY vehicle and driver in the state. Florida is GREAT. You can renew you plates on the Internet, it takes, really, less than a minute. The sicker comes in the mail, really, the next day. I don't know an on-line retailer that can match their efficiency.
