That's certainly an impressive win for Open Range and Alvarion. Folks currently living in many of those under- and un- served areas should be happy to learn about this. Well, most of them anyway. I wonder how may fiber projects previously struggling to become or have already attained the status of "shovel ready" will now be halted in their tracks as a result of this. Broadband wireless coverage will, and should, spread ubiquitously, regardless of any future penetrations made by fiber buildouts, since the ether cannot become whole without both. However, the likelihood of new fiber builds at this time attaining funding levels required for meaningful, far-flung deployments, especially after something like this has become available, will probably diminish precipitously for some existing and many future fiber-based initiatives, for some time to come, IMO.
