It probably is that he is ashamed he is a bastard and felt it would hurt him. By the time he was big-time it was too late to retract. Now he is stuck.

I just can't believe somebody in the CIA, or FBI or other secret service that we don't even know about would not have researched and exposed something like this. It just does not make sense - it would also be of concern to other countries and their secret services.
