"with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship"

Exactly how many have followed this path? The only democracies I can think of which collapsed into dictatorships are Germany and Italy, and both of those did so for reasons other than what you claim. There are some third world countries which did the same, but, again, it wasn't because the people were voting largess.

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship." - Tytler

All of that happened under Bush and we are still a democracy. I guess Tytler had it wrong.

A democracy is doomed when people realize they can vote themselves all the money.

The EU is doomed because Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal did it. Knowing they were backstopped by Germany, France, UK etc.

Not to mention the USA through the IMF.
