I think even Aristotle had it figured out ....

".. the multitude must of necessity be sovereign and the decision of the majority must be final and must constitute justice, for they say that each of the citizens ought to have an equal share; so that it results that in democracies the poor are more powerful than the rich, because there are more of them and whatever is decided by the majority is sovereign.

So, we have this Tytler fellow (although, in fact, the quote is often attributed to Disraeli), we have Aristotle, and B. Franklin, all essentially arriving at similar conclusions -- that the the democracy will suffer from having the have-nots out-voting the haves, providing themselves with money from the "government", and intuitively, there is nothing to stop it from happening.

I don't know enough about civilizations to know which have failed for this reason. But I do know the logic of it is clear -- the debt of the nation will grow without bound until the democracy collapses.

You didn't answer my question, though. Do you really think these trillion dollar deficits can continue into perpetuity without the nation simply collapsing? We've seen the debt increasing -- now at an exponential rate -- and the current administration will EASILY double the debt added by the previous administration (I suspect it will be TRIPLE if he is able to get his health care initiative through).

You cannot believe this can continue forever, and you certainly can't point to anything to suggest there is any end in sight.

What do you anticipate will cause the massive deficits Obama is proposing to come to an end? We are approaching a time when there is no chance of undoing this damage.

Still think Tytler's prediction is a failure?
