Benwood, try supplementing with high dose EPA/DHA concentrates. it has anti-inflammatory properties - and inflammation causes pain.

you can also reduce pain by keeping your insulin response within a zone, but that means you have to balance healthy carbs, lean protein and healthy fats at every meal.

this takes more commitment than most are willing to muster, though. i put in the effort and i will never go back.

the occupational nurse that recommended this diet to me was able to eliminate the 17 aspirins a day habit.

i convinced a friend of mine with debilitating back pain to try the zone + 2.5 EPA/DHA and within 2 days she told me, "i can't believe it. the inflammation is gone."

this at the tail end of 5 years of seeking every traditional and non traditional treatment she could think of and within 2 weeks of her spending $10k out of pocket on an MRI (or similar) and being told, "we can try to fix it with surgery." within a week she was off her ulcer medication caused by taking excessive anti-inflammatories.

my recovery is not only better than when i was 18, it is dramatically better (as defined by not feeling nearly as many after effects of strenuously working out). however, i do think i've taken a hit in the muscle regeneration area. it is tough to tell, though, as i started working out hard from a very low base - 20 years of zero weight training and minimal exercise of any kind. that's a pretty big bogey to recover from at any age.

It just makes success that much more sweet.
