Water mains, sewerage and bulk electricity are nice to have but not essential, unlike mobile cyberspace. Being deaf, dumb and blind are very bad for humans. But one can easily poop in a long drop, pee in a bush, drink rain water or creek water [it's easy to make a few litres a day potable].
