"Too many people can easily deny the amount of advancement we've made in pharmaceuticals over the past few decades. That's now taken for granted."

They've made a lot of great discoveries. Would they have made them without screwing Americans and using us as cash cows? Probably.

They've also devoted enormous efforts to:

-Advertising, and advertising drugs people didn't even know they needed, like a pill to kill the little bugs that make some people's nails yellow.

-Fighting to keep old, cash cow drugs "on patent" past their fair time.

-Reformulating "new" drugs that are really just minor tweaks of old drugs, that deliver no more benefit than the old ones. My doc prefers prescribing the older drugs, for safety.

-combining two formerly separate drugs into a "new" drug. It's cheaper to take the two seperate drugs, especially if they are generic.

I suspect that any actual cures found are locked in a vault, if any ARE found. Why should they even LOOK for cures when the business model that works for them is to have people HAVE to take their pills for life?
