Meddling in Iran gives the mullahs an excuse to do what they are doing now. Not only that, it gives the Iranians in the countryside reasons to get actively involved, which isn't the case at the moment. What Obama has been doing is precisely the right approach. Anything else invites a backlash like when Bush helped Mahmoud get elected in the first place. Mahmoud was behind in the polls until Bush stuck his foot in it an announced that he would be unacceptable to the US. And that led to his come from behind win. Granted, I know you and your ilk don't learn from experience unless the experience conforms to your ideology, but try it for once.
