Medicare and Medicaid are wonderful programs, but they're both going broke...

If we had privatized SS like Bush wanted ,it would have been devestated (sic) by the recent collapse in the markets

That statement is not intellectually honest, although I'm sure you believe what you say... we all know that there was plenty of warning given to barney fwank and his banking committee about the need for oversight, but maxine waters and barney fwank kept reassuring everyone that there was no need to worry and not to make a problem where none exists... well, we come to find out there WAS a problem, a huge one which they were hiding... also, remember that the biggest cash gifts from freddie and fannie were made to barney, dodd, clinton, and obama... they told banks to go out into the community and make those high risk loans so everyone could own a part of "the American dream" or they would lose their banking charter... the real predators were these idiot politicians... credit evaporated when people who should never have receive those loans began to default on them... so, you can't blame Bush or the economy on this market downturn, you can blame it on obama, dodd, fwank, and clinton...

Another point regarding Bush's suggestion to privatize SS, it would have been completely voluntary, after all, the money does belong to the individual who earned it, it doesn't "belong" to the government... so, people could either risk some or all of their money in the markets or leave it all as it is with the government... everyone would have had a choice, there would be no mandatory program like what obama wants... with Republicans, people have a choice about what they do with their SS money, with the liberals there is no choice...
