I was using streetsmart which has a compuserve gateway, not the internet web site. It looks like the CIS to Schwab connection was overloaded. Then I called the "freephone number" (calling from Europe) which usually gives me a broker in Indianapolis and continually got a busy signal.

As it turns out, unless I had an order in at the open to sell my Gateway puts, it would have been too late anyway -- for now -g-.
