I'm sure these protests would have happened anyway without George W. Bush trying to push democracy in the Middle East.

It takes history years, decades, to figure this kind of stuff out, usually. The Reagan situation was different, but there are still many liberals who don't credit him with ending the CW.

In spite of the fact that his objective, long before his first run for political office, was just that.

There is something to be said for keeping the pressure on, and GWB really wasn't able to do that because the Iraq War went so badly. But I still think history will credit him, should the uprising succeed.

Probably not in my lifetime, as the Left and even some on the Right want to credit the Cairo speech. But that's superficial, and when it gets down to it, GWB with the Iraq War created an environment where a sustained revolution is possible.

So, here we are, well into it, and Obama is still hoping he'll be able to negotiate with the mullahs.

Being a liberal means never having to admit you're wrong.

Plenty of conservatives over the last few days have said that Obama has behaved exactly right, kissinger among them...what would you do besides shooting your mouth off? What would you have at your disposal to help them? Nothing...just like poppy bush when he egged the shia and kurds to revolt, then watched helplessly as saddam killed them by the thousands. Thank heavens we have a man with a head on his shoulders in the WH...and the AWs you and inode admire are relegated to the sidelines.
