I disagree....I don't think he was responding "to the polls" and certainly not to the chattering class on Fox News and the other 24/7 news cycle. Older foreign policy hands have pointed out again and again that seeming to take a position in this internal struggle only gives the entrenched leadership the excuse it wants to claim outside interference. Connect the dots. It's logical that we don't want quotes out there that they use for their own purposes. The people of Iran don't need Obama's words to realize their position. They are living it. The crackdown will result in ever stronger words, as has been the case over the past 48 hours. It all makes perfect sense to me. No grandstanding needed. No axis of evil nonsense. Not yet, anyway.
