The goal of the Spanish conquest of the Americas was to take gold and silver to Europe. In that context, you'll have to describe "hyperinflation" in terms of new gold supply that even we people from other planets can understand.

Well.. "hyperinflation" might be a bit strong of a word, but the period at the time of the Spanish conquest was known as the "Price Revolution":

The fact is clear.. there was a limited amount of gold (although silver production had increased) prior to the Spanish discovery of the Americas and afterward there was a surplus of gold/silver which was spent by the Spaniards to finance their military and colonial aspirations.
