can you point to a similar example where this has worked played out in this manner (nation massively in debt, relying on others to pay their bills and doubling the money supply to pay its bills)?

Japan?

They have a FAR HIGHER national debt to GDP level than the US.. (over 150% of GDP)

They focus on exporting stuff to other nations (mercantilism), which helps to finance their debt and prop up their economy.

As for money supply, I suspect that's the case because they have $13 Trillion in savings drawing less than 1% interest.

1/4 of their population is over 60 years of age and ready for retirement.

It's quite possible we're heading for the same situation, given our aging population. In fact, even though I'm p*ssed about illegal immigration, it's possible that immigration will be the only thing that sustains our economy.
