>>As one who struggles constantly with my weight, my comment would be that lack of knowledge or research is not the problem. I know how to lose the weight. I lack the will power.<<

but you don't know how to take will power out of the equation. i lost 25 lbs of fat (not just weight, which often means loss of muscle mass - and that's bad) and will power never came into play.

my guess is not 1 doctor in 100 knows how to control hunger, lose excess fat (and simultaneously gain lean muscle mass if one weight trains) and reduce one's risk of diabetes 83% - all at the same time. if this is true, then it is an education issue. the harvard doctors at joslin diabetes center have it right, but nobody else agrees with them because they didn't do the same same research into diet.

this is why 95%+ of people can't lose 30 lbs and keep it off - they lack the will power the same way they lack the will power to hold their breath for 5 minutes. if you are fighting against your will, you are almost certainly doomed to fail - even if you know how to hold your breath, you won't be able to do it for 5 minutes.

Unfortunately, many boomers headed into retirement are finding that out now, at the worst possible time. Moreover, looking ahead, I doubt the next decade is not going to be much better than the last. ...
