I don't think anyone who worked on that project envisioned it becoming what it has today. I remember there was a great deal of excitement about it, but more because we needed the money than because of what it might become.

I know Japan was way ahead of us in terms of the complexity of their cell phones. Their cell phones in the 90s did things that American cells weren't able to do until a few years ago.
