I think the key to successful long term investing is recognizing companies that have an advantage that is likely to be sustained for decades that also have a management team that's young enough to be around for awhile. That basically eliminates 90% or more of all the companies out there. But if you focus your buys on that remaining 10%, I think you will do fine. The difficult part is recognizing a sustainable advantage from a temporary one and buying them at a price that makes sense. The prices on companies like these rarely make much sense based on their current earnings and assets.
