>>Most people get far fewer colds as they age, and get more again with children going to daycare/germ centers.<<

an average of 5-8 days missed a year and another 5-8 days a year being at work miserable drops down to 1.5 days a year for everyone? cool. ;-) i went from by far the sickest in the my family to by far the healthiest (and i think my spouse is aging, too ;-)? why did this change occur at exactly the time my diet changed? my son was in 1st and 2nd grade the last two years.

age may have played a role, but i'm convinced diet was at least 20x more critical.

>>One thing I'd be curious about is a link between allergies and diet.<<

my long term allergy problem disappeared. this result wasn't even on my radar, so it couldn't be a placebo. i didn't realize this until i saw a bunch of people sneezing and feeling miserable during the san diego fires. not me. for reference, my nickname was sneezy at work prior to my diet change.

>>Or maybe it's air pollution and crap in the water. Whatever the reason, most of the past few years, I've been much more allergic in March/April and again in October than I used to, so bad at times that it seems like I have a cold for a day or two. Sometimes the allergies give me ringing in one ear.<<

as i understand it, allergies are related to a pro-inflammatory eicosanoid called a leukotriene. make too many of them and your chance of an allergic attack goes way up. make less of them and it goes down.

>>Or how about he explosion of asthma? If I remember correctly, a recent study showed a connection with some air pollutant, but I forget exactly what and how (a binding in the atmosphere...?).<<

>>I suspect that a very healthy diet can also lead to a dramatic drop in the use of psychotropic drugs, too.<<
