Ox, when i view this gentleman's dietary recommendation, i have two comments.

1. grains just aren't that good for you. they tend to have a high glycemic load - and that drives inflammation. the version of the med diet that correlated with an 83% reduction in diabetes was basically the med diet minus grains. this isn't an accident. whole grains can be consumed, but one must mention in low quantity or else someone might just chow on whole grain bread all day and end up with elevated inflammation.
2. the diet seems to infer a low level of protein. people should eat between 0.6 and 1.0 grams pf protein per lb of lean body mass.

with these two modifications, that diet is pretty good and would dramatically reduce obesity and disease in this country.
