I was defining it narrowly in my earlier statement.

I realized that people might object to that narrower definition, but if it is defined in a broader sense I'd just have to use different words to get the same meaning.

The way I was using the term "sentient", in my statement - "perhaps the category could be expressed as "living organisms with sentience or potential for sentience" - only homo sapiens (of all known living species) would be sentient.
