the data is clear - most diets fail miserably. they fail b/c absolutely zero emphasis is put on hormonal control.

hormones control weight gain. hormones control hunger. hormones control mood.

if you ignore a diet's impact on one's hormonal system, you are asking for trouble - and trouble is what people consistently get.

that's the genius of the zone diet. it was designed from the ground up to keep your hormonal responses with in a reasonably tight zone, hence the name of the book, so that satiety and wellness is achieved (dr. sears has a few patents in drug delivery so it was only natural for him to have the insight that food is a drug and should be delivered as such). it is designed to stabilize blood sugar for 4-6 hours after a meal so that your brain works at peak efficiency and your moods improve.

weight loss is a side effect. optimal health, wellness and human performance is the primary purpose of this diet.

once you learn to use diet to modulate your hormonal responses, a whole new world opens up before you.

after 20 years off due to nerve damage, i'm on target to be faster, stronger and have better endurance than i did 25 years ago - and i don't believe i could work out at all without this anti-inflammatory diet. well, i could, but the pain is significant and i'd likely be under the knife again.

diet is huge once you realize that food is a drug - either a very healthy drug or a very damaging drug.

the choice is yours.

i *love* my diet. i feel better at 42 than at 18. my cardio system is more efficient at 42 than 18. i'm healthier than i've ever been and i can see my abs for the first time in my life (but don't really care too much as feeling fantastic is so valuable).

i don't want to become a carbohydrate drug addict again - i'm off that wagon for good.

ps - i went from craving and eating mike and ikes every day to sitting next to the candy jar and not even wanting any candy. if i decide i want jelly bellies or a snickers, i eat them in small quantities and balance them out protein and fat (jelly bellies) or protein (snickers).
