He was attacked at a point of weakness. Even those close to him did not give much support that this weakness was not totally plausible.

Famous people with money appear to end up court over shakedowns of this type. They have to be more careful than ordinary folk. A famous incidence is the owner of the Pantages Theatre who was set up, (the prize being control of the theatre) and probably fell for the bait, it would seem. There are many others, including Kelsey Grammer, Stephen Segal, Clark Gable, Errol Flynn.. the list is long. Some of them may in fact be moral lepers, that is a given. The ones intent on raising money by crying high dudgeon are probably aware of that fact.
