Not to mention how brilliant his father was designing a drill bit for oil rigs that made him millions.

Many things we take for granted now a days, you can thank Hughes for. Flying above 20,000 feet (above the turbulence), flush rivets on air planes, airplane flight routes, satellites, the list goes on and on.

I was very close to Howard Hughes and had many things in common with him. Wherever Howard was I was nearby almost as close as his shadow.

I grew up in Los Angeles and used to drive by Hughes Aircraft Company in Long Beach all the time and I used to wave at it from the back seat of my parents car. I know he saw me because I had this toy goose and waved that too. Later he build a giant aircraft and called it The Spruce Goose so that's how I knew I had some influence and was partly responsible for his greatness.

It could be said that nothing leaves the bounds of this earth without the Hughes genius represented. The first satellite into orbit, the first vehicle on the Moon, both were built by the Hughes Aircraft Company. While my first trip into orbit was more of the LSD variety I thank Howard for influencing me to try flying on less than a dollar imitating his frugality and he even commissioned Tom Petty to do a to inspire me.

He used to own The Desert Inn and Sands in Las Vegas and his love of gambling was matched only by his love of Ava Gardner but she was the object of attention by Frank Sinatra so it was a real mess. A couple years before that I used to deliver pizza for Mr. Pizza on La Cienega Blvd. and one day Sinatra Junior ordered a pizza and I had to drive all the way up Coldwater Canyon Dr to deliver it and he only tipped me 5.00 for the trouble. So, I phoned Howard at The Sands and told him what happened and suggested he ban Frank Sr. from his hotel and he did exactly that and told Frank's mafia buddies to get out of town and they did. So thanks to me Las Vegas changed from a mob infested trash can of sin and decadence into a clean family attraction. Even The Marriot and Hilton opened up there. All this because Frank Jr. stiffed me

When he appeared before that committee, he attacked Brewster and after 3 days Hughes walked out, and Brewster had to defend himself against Hughes allegations of bribery about Pan Am and TWA:

Hughes won the fight.
