One theory could be that a super volcano had a massive outgassing of CO2 that caused an abrupt climate change to end Snowball earth.

It should be no surprise to you that there are many potential causes of catastrophic warming. Just like we don't want a super volcano outgassing CO2 to change our climate abruptly, we also don't want human activity to increase CO2 so much over the next 100 years causing massive human and financial catastrophes. We have a pretty good idea that prolonged increase in CO2 in our atmosphere will cause all sorts of problems. So why not do something about it while we still can?
