John, I had no trouble trading with Datek today. Even had confirmations within seconds, as usual.

While Datek has had problems in the past, it worked well today. There were some delays using the servers that provide quotes, but the "express" server was "express" all day.

Datek sometimes has trouble with market-makers that just don't like dealing with them playing games. I don't think they had the time to play games today - I think the MMs were just happy to have the added liquidity from Island.

I'm afraid I didn't make the heroic move and buy INTCW on the open. :(

I did buy a small position in TDF (an open-end Hong Kong fund that trades at a big discount to NAV) this morning at 11 7/8. Closed at 13 3/8. Bought some MDCO and BROC as well. Still mostly cash.

John,I use Fidelity's Spartan gold circle.They charge $25/trade
up to 1000 shares plus 3 cents a share for any transactions over
1000 shares.I 've never had problems getting through,and I've
found them to be very fast entering orders.I recently moved to Fidelity from Waterhouse.I found Waterhouse to be rather slow, and
half the time they put me on hold to double verify my order before
putting it through. All in all I'm happy to be with Fidelity.
At the present time I do not trade on the web.I'm still not
comfortable with internet trading.I've listened to to many horror
stories about web trading.
Good luck and I hope your having a good trading day.

I feel your pain John. I ran across a new site at SI to gripe about the crap system that Schwab has employed. Here's one site: www3.techstocks.com

Plenty of gripes about Schwab there. I think they will lose a lot of customers and that could pressure their profitability. The only positive I can say today--and the reason for the post to the CREAF thread--is that I put in a small order for shares of CREAF yesterday that was a limit 'good till cancelled'. I just remembered 20 minutes ago that I put on this trade with a limit at 23 3/4 and found it was filled this morning just under 22. Thought I'd add a positive ending to my sour grapes. Cheers!
