Heart Attack Care: Drugs vs. Stents

Not trying to speak for anyone else, but if my cardiologist tells me the stent is the way to go, then it ought to be his choice and mine. Not that of a government panel, nor that of some researcher's.

These are complicated issues and while statistics are great, if the physician's judgment is overridden by a panel of bureaucrats -- which is essentially what we're talking about -- then why bother with a physician at all? Just call Medicare customer service and tell them you're having chest pain and see what THEY recommend.

This is why physicians make the big bucks. They advise THEIR patients on life-and-death decisions about patient treatment every day, and the bureaucrats have neither the skill nor the desire to take the matters seriously.

While there are no doubt some abuses, I just don't believe most cardiologists are going to recommend procedures that they, in their experience, believe are not the best for their patients.

How about starting with Medicare/Medicaid FRAUD which costs taxpayers $60 Billion/year? Show us you can solve THIS problem before attacking practitioners who are doing their best to serve patients interests.

And certainly before turning over EVEN MORE MONEY for ineptly managed government programs to squander.
