Also NK is going thru first contentious regime change. A lot of this is for home consumption as well. Create crisis and war footing and stifle opposition to the new great leader in the wings. But in doing this they take great risks.
If US hit harbors and nuke sites, what happens to tripwire and Seoul? And what is end game for US. Can we beat them convincingly on the ground? Can we take out regime, assuming China not a problem.

>> Part of that may be because Obama's administration is still young.

I had given up on the liberal media, but the last press conference suggests there may yet be hope.

I had long maintained the media would eat their young to get the next story, but after the election, had really become discouraged with their refusal to call Obama on the carpet (any remaining hope I might have had was dashed by the NYT "Are you enchanted" question).

But in that news conf. last week I really think they showed they CAN ask tough questions and if need be, follow up and hold his feet to the fire. If he were be held to the same scrutiny GWB was, we'd have a different president today. But if they turn it around, it will be a victory for democracy (perhaps too little, too late, but maybe not).

Ted, North Korea is arguably acting more belligerent than at any time during the whole Bush administration.

That's because NK is going through a major change in governance.

I have noticed that although the press continues to report on every act of bravado coming from the failed regime, they have not been as judgemental of Obama as they were with Bush. Part of that may be because Obama's administration is still young.

I am not sure what there is to judge. Frankly, calling NK one of the Axis of Evil is counterproductive.
