>>Similar to GM, USA is bankrupt and needs restructuring. Less
bubbles, less financial engineering, more manufacturing
activity.

Well, lets see:

Climate bill passed house yesterday.

CEO of local utility co-op says it will increase rates by 40%.

Also will increase cost of natural gas, and gasoline.

In a recession, with high and getting higher unemployment.

This will certainly help all folks suffering a downturn in income.

Last time I looked:

Electricity not optional (summer around here is HOT).

Natural Gas not optional (winter around here is COLD).

Gasoline (as in for commuting) necessary for employment, and therefore not optional.

All of above go into cost of goods, which will certainly NOT help manufacturing competitiveness. Such as say, cooking up steel or smelting aluminum.

Nothing what so ever to prevent China/India from creating more coal fired electric plants. Looks like a giant "kick me" sign to be taped on our collective asses. Perhaps a good characterization of those who voted for this.

Net immediate result of this policy action?

I believe I am signing off as a democrat.
