With the supposed intelligence of those in power just now, I wouldn't put anything past them, and trust many of our friends here on this SI to give more thoughtful comments than I expect from the decision makers.

I will not be surprised to see it happen regardless of 'common sense' and just wonder what 'we-all' think it will do to Gold prices.

Haven't they already accomplished this by abandoning the "official" price of gold (which was $45 per ounce) and allowing the gold price to rise almost twenty-fold ?

When FDR did his deed, he increased the official price of gold. In effect he increased the amount the US government was prepared to pay to buy gold from anyone who wanted to sell it. And yet we believe there has been a conspiracy to hold down the price of gold.
